Prime Minister Narendra Modi has handed over the charge of the Environment ministry after the sudden demise of minister Anil Dave, to Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan. Dave passed away early morning today. The minister was unwell since earlier this year, following a bout of pneumonia, from which he had not recovered completely. Yesterday, the minister was admitted in All India Institute of Medical Services (AIIMS), where he passed away.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his tweet, called him a “friend and a very respected colleague” and referred to his death as a “personal loss.” He added that Dave would always be remembered for his “devoted public service”.
Anil Dave was a Member of the Parliament from Madhya Pradesh. He took charge of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Independent Charge) ministry on July 6 last year, during a reshuffle of the Narendra Modi cabinet. As per Indian Express, Anil Dave was passionate on projects like conservation of the Narmada river. He had also founded an organisation ‘Narmada Samagra’ for the purpose.
The Centre has announced a day of mourning in this respect. The National Flag will fly at half-mast as a mark of respect in New Delhi and all State and UT capitals.
