Millions of people across the United States, including many in Wisconsin, will take part in protests on October 18 to show they oppose President Donald Trump’s actions. This is the second round of protests called the ‘No Kings’ movement.

The ‘No Kings’ protests are against President Trump’s efforts to increase his power and his administration’s harsh treatment of immigrants. Organisers say the protests are to show that America is not ruled by kings or dictators.

They are upset about things like immigration raids, attacks on healthcare, and cutting important protections for the environment and education.

More than 100 groups, including the ACLU and the American Federation of Teachers, are helping organise the protests. They promise the protests will be peaceful and safe.

Where and when are protests happening?

In Wisconsin, over 60 protests are planned. Here are some key places and times in the Milwaukee area:

  • Greenfield: 10 to 11:30 a.m. at South 76th Street and West Layton Avenue.
  • Brookfield: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. near Main Street and West Bluemound Road (address given to those who RSVP).
  • Waukesha: 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Cutler Park, 321 Wisconsin Ave.
  • Milwaukee: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cathedral Square Park, 520 E. Wells St.
  • Shorewood: 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Oak Leaf Trail Bridge, near North Wilson Drive and East Capitol Drive.

Around 2,500 protests will happen across the country on October 18, more than ever before. Big protests are planned in Washington, DC, Boston, New York, Chicago, and many other cities. The movement is growing fast, with more people joining to speak out peacefully against the Trump administration.

“No Thrones, No Crowns, No Kings. On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people,” a message seen on the No Kings website reads.

“Together, millions will send a clear and unmistakable message: we are a nation of equals, and our country will not be ruled by fear or force,” the protesters said in a statement.

The first No Kings Day protest took place on June 14, which was also Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. On the same day, the administration held a military parade in Washington to celebrate the US Army’s 250th anniversary, causing some controversy.

The June 14 protest became one of the largest demonstrations in US history, with organisers estimating that over five million people joined in more than 2,100 cities and towns. The main event was held in Philadelphia.

The next No Kings Day protest on October 18 is expected to draw just as many, if not more, participants across the country.
