A 30-year-old businessman in Bengaluru has alleged that he was physically assaulted by a grocery delivery agent during a confrontation outside his residence in Judges Colony, Basaveshwaranagar.

The complainant, Shashank S, said the incident occurred when his sister-in-law went to collect a grocery order and discovered a mismatch in the delivery address. The disagreement allegedly escalated, prompting Shashank to intervene.

According to the FIR and Shashank’s account to the police, the delivery agent—identified as Vishnuvardhan—verbally abused him and then attacked him, delivering multiple punches to his face and head before fleeing. Shashank later sought medical attention and was diagnosed with a skull fracture. Doctors have indicated that surgery may be required if the injury does not heal within a week.

Shashank has since shared CCTV footage of the alleged assault on Instagram, tagging the grocery delivery platform Zepto and demanding accountability for the incident.

Zepto issued a brief response, stating, “We regret any inconvenience caused. Professional conduct is essential to us, we’ll make sure this is addressed.”

The police have registered a case under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation is ongoing.

The incident has sparked concern over the safety of customers during doorstep deliveries and raised questions about training and background checks for delivery personnel.
