In the third edition of the Major League Cricket (MlC), underway in California, Sannjay Krishnamurthi shone bright despite international players in the league. In a match between Washington Freedom and San Francisco Unicorns, the Bengaluru origin player batted 36 runs off just 20 balls.

Following the dismissal of Jake Fraser McGurk, Krishnamurthi came out fourth to bat. With his momentum falling short, he found his connect with Rachin Ravindra who came in with a fiery bowling forefront. However, it fell short in front of Krishnamurthi’s defense as he smashed four consecutive sixes.

Who is Sanjay Krishnamurhthi?

From Bengaluru to Arizona, Sanjay’s passion for cricket started young. He joined a Bengaluru academy and shone in his zonal category and represented his state at the U16 level. His dream to play for the India Cricket Team would not have been possible without giving up his US citizenship. Being an OCI card-holder, he wasn’t eligible to represent Karnataka. His parents, Satya & Julie Krishnamurthi feature wide smiles after his stellar performance in California.

However, Krishnamurthi received a call up for trial for the Major League Cricket (MlC) in 2019 and he didn’t stand back. He got his big break in 2020 when he debuted in the ODI format for the USA after Aaron James, a teammate, ducked out due to an injury.

Krishnamurthi’s league so far

So far, he has featured in 14 ODIs and 9 T20Is for the USA, amassing 255 and 90 runs respectively. In Major League Cricket (MLC), he has played 10 matches—including the latest one in California—scoring 205 runs at a strike rate of 142.36, including a half-century. At just 22 years old, his talent signals a promising future and potential to elevate cricket’s profile in the USA.
