Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy are set to be retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as their final two capped players ahead of the 2025 IPL auction. Reports indicate that Head will be retained for INR 14 crore, while Reddy is expected to receive INR 6 crore.
SRH Completes Core Group Retention
With these signings, SRH has finalized its quota of five capped retained players, securing the core group that led the team to the IPL 2024 final. Earlier, the franchise announced the retention of Heinrich Klaasen (INR 23 crore), Pat Cummins (INR 18 crore), and Abhishek Sharma (INR 14 crore). Following these transactions, SRH will lose INR 75 crore from its auction purse of INR 120 crore. The team can now use a right-to-match card to buy back one of its uncapped players during the auction.
October 31 is the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their lists of retained players. Each franchise can retain up to six players, including a maximum of five capped internationals and two uncapped players. While the IPL has set minimum retention amounts ranging from INR 11 crore to INR 23 crore, franchises can pay more if they choose.
Head had a breakthrough season with SRH in 2024, scoring 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.55. His performance in high-stakes matches has made him a valuable asset, especially following his standout innings in the ODI World Cup final. Reddy, named the Emerging Player of the Year in IPL 2024, also saw a significant increase in his value after scoring 303 runs at a strike rate of 143. Both players are set to play crucial roles as SRH looks to build on its recent successes in the upcoming season.
