The government will consider further curtailing the list of services that are outside the tax net and consider increasing tax on services as the country moves to a new tax regime common for both goods and services — the GST, revenue secretary Shaktikanta Das indicated at a post-Budget conference here.
Budget 2015 has proposed increasing service tax from 12.36% to 14%, which itself is below a plausible rate that would be applicable on services under GST and hence experts consider there is scope for further increase.
