Smriti Irani educational qualifications controversy: You cannot compare oranges and apples, says Nalin Kohli </br> </br> Congress drew a parallel in the educational qualifications cases of Smriti Irani and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Jitendra Singh Tomar who resigned as a minister in Delhi government after his arrest. "You cannot compare oranges and apples. In the case of Tomar, there is a police investigation which has proved beyond doubt that there is a criminal act of a fake degree, going ahead and contesting an election on it and then being the Law Minister," another BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said. He said that in the case of Smriti Irani, the court has spoken about maintainability of the complaint, which is the first step of a legal process as to whether there is a ground in terms of jurisdiction. "It has neither any implication on conviction nor exoneration." (PTI)

"Flight operations have been delayed by 15-30 minutes and there have been five go-arounds," an airport spokesperson said. Heavy rains have lashed the city since late last evening, disrupting train and road traffic as well. Operations at the Chhtrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) here have been hit for multiple days starting with the torrential downpour on Friday. On Friday, flight operations were delayed by 45 minutes and four flights had to be diverted, while a snag in the radar hit operations on Saturday. This was followed by heavy rains delaying operations by 15 minutes on Sunday. The decision came after Supreme Court directed re-conduct of the test following allegations of large-scale irregularities in the examination held on May 3. Nearly 6.3 lakh candidates had registered for AIPMT, 2015. "In compliance with the Supreme Court order on June 15 and June 19, CBSE has decided to re-conduct the All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Test 2015 on July 25 (Saturday)," CBSE, which conducts the examination, said in a statement. "No fresh applications will be accepted for this examination and it will be a retest only in respect of the candidates who had applied within the stipulated time from December 1, 2014 to January 31, 2015 with requisite fee," it stated. (PTI) (23/06/2015)</br> <br>Karnataka govt moves Supreme Court against Jayalalithaa's acquittal in DA case </br> <br>Karnataka government today challenged in Supreme Court the state High Court's verdict acquitting J Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case that cleared the decks for the AIADMK supremo to return as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. The petition, filed through advocate Joseph Aristotle, claimed that the High Court erred in computing the disproportionate assets of the AIADMK leader. "The judge committed a grave mistake in totalling the ten items of loan by arriving at a figure of Rs 24.17 crore when, actually on proper totalling, the same ought to be Rs 10.67 crore, resulting in erroneous decision that disproportionate assets is only to the extent of 8.12 per cent of the income when actually it works out to 76.7 per cent, the disproportionate assets being Rs 16.32 crore and the income as found being Rs 21.26 crore," the plea said. Seven buffaloes, worth lakhs of rupees, were stolen from a barn owned by the UP Minister for Minorities and Urban Development here on January 31, 2014 following which dog squads, crime branch sleuths and police personnel were put on the job to find them. The bovines were rescued after an intensive overnight search and five of the accused were nabbed earlier. Acting on a tip off, another accused identified as Chunan, a history sheeter, was arrested on Sunday in Moradabad district along with two others who were planning to commit a dacoity, Moradabad Superintendent of Police (Rural) Praval Pratap Singh said. <br>Hooch tragedy claims 102 lives, supplier held in Delhi </br> <br>In a breakthrough into the worst-ever hooch tragedy in Mumbai that has so far claimed 102 lives and rendered over 40 people ill, police have tracked down and arrested one of the main suppliers of the killer brew in Delhi today while the Maharashtra government has ordered a Chief Secretary-headed probe into the case. Atiq, whom police had narrowed down as a main supplier of the spurious liquor, was arrested in Delhi with the help of the local police there, Mumbai Joint Commissioner of police (Crime) Atulchandra Kulkarni, said. "We have got him (Atiq) after a joint operation with the Delhi police," Kulkarni said. Nearly a week after the tragedy struck a working class area in Malwani, Excise Minister Eknath Khadse after a cabinet meeting today told reporters that the probe would be conducted by Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya. (PTI) (23/06/2015)</br> <br>UP govt to give free laptops to class X, XII pass out students </br> <br>Uttar Pradesh government today decided to provide free laptops to meritorious students, who passed class X and XII examinations conducted by CBSE, ICSE and the state board. It was decided that 39,600 meritorious students who passed class X and XII would be given free laptops, an official spokesperson said here. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav here. Giving details of the decision the spokesperson said, 50 per cent laptops would be for each class X and XII pass outs and it would be distributed among students of different boards according to their results. The list of laptop recipients would have 20 per cent quota for minorities and 21 per cent for SC/CT students, he added. The Samajwadi Party government had promised free laptops and tablet computers to intermediate and high-school pass outs in its 2012 Assembly election manifesto. While over 15 lakh laptops were distributed to intermediate pass outs, the scheme for distribution of tablets could not see light of the day. The laptop scheme was also discontinued after 2012.
