Before Fan, Shahrukh Khan has played a superhero (Ra.One), a mafia don (Dilwale, Don, Don 2) and a mastermind (Happy New Year). However, for someone who started his career as an 'aam aadmi' in Deewana, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Shahrukh Khan has time and again excelled as an ordinary man too. Now in Fan, the megastar is again appearing as a youngster who is an ordinary middle class kid. By the way, Shahrukh Khan's Fan has received some of the best reviews possible from critics. 1. Shahrukh Khan in Chennai Express: 'Never underestimate the power of a common man' – And so said Shah Rukh Khan in this action packed romantic entertainer by Rohit Shetty. An ordinary man caught in extraordinary situations, he shied away from taking on the baddies, knew that he was way out of his league when compared to his arch-rival and was just the owner of a 'mithai' shop. 2. Shahrukh Khan in Chak De! India: This was as real as it gets. As a tainted hockey player, he had to make the best of that one big chance he got to clear his name and reputation. Stepping into the part of a coach, Shah Rukh Khan came up with one of the most fantastic performance of his career, as he took it upon himself to bring a set of unruly girls together and build a team that went on to win the cup. He was simply superb in the film.

3. Shahrukh Khan in Jab Tak Hai Jaan: Okay, so he played a flamboyant army officer in some parts of the film. However, he was endearing as a simpleton in this Yash Chopra film where he had Katrina Kaif to serenade. Though one can't quite term this performance of his as the one in a lifetime, Shah Rukh Khan played his part with good conviction.

4. Shahrukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: One of the most memorable performances was delivered by Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Yet again, he had a double role to enact where he played a simpleton as well as a flamboyant alter-ego. While he was in a familiar zone for the latter part, it was his characterization as Suri that melted many a heart. He went through a complete metamorphosis for this role and knocked off the Rahul element.

5. Shahrukh Khan in My Name Is Khan: A difficult role by all means, Shah Rukh Khan was terrific as Rizvan Khan. He had a task in hand where he had to come up with a balanced act so that it doesn't border towards over-acting or fake. Still, he delivered, and how. As an ordinary guy who fought against the bias meted towards Muslims in the West, Shah Rukh Khan gave his all to the role in this Karan Johar directed affair.

6. Shahrukh Khan in Swades: Do any poll and chances are that Shahrukh Khan's performance as Mohan Bhargava would feature right at the top. As a NASA scientist who found his true calling in the interiors of India, Shah Rukh Khan was as 'aam aadmi' as one could imagine. Ironically, not many saw that on the big screen when the Ashutosh Gowariker film was released. Today, this performance is remembered quite fondly by one and all.

7. Shahrukh Khan in Om Shanti Om: He played a superstar Om Kapoor in the latter part of the film. However in the first half, he was just plain and simple Om Prakash Makhija. As a commoner who fell for a Bollywood diva (Deepika Padukone) no less, Shah Rukh Khan approached the part quite animatedly. Required to go over the top for many scenes in the film, Shah Rukh Khan reminded one and all that 'Picture Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Dost'.

Shahrukh Khan in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna: As someone who carried a regret of not rising up as a sports star due to the injury in his leg, Shah Rukh Khan went for a changed body language and mannerisms for this part. Enacting the part of a flawed husband and father, he demonstrated a different facet of his acting talent. As Dev Saran, he did deliver but Indian audience didn't quite give a nod of approval to his character which found love outside marriage.

9. Shahrukh Khan in Kal Ho Na Ho: This is one film where Shah Rukh Khan played the Shah Rukh Khan who has been loved over the years. There was a deep sense of regret that his character of Aman Mathur carried though, as it battled terminal illness. There was no heroic act that was in display here as he played a friendly, albeit an over-the-top neighbour of Preity Zinta. There was a lot of filminess in the part that he played for screen, and succeeded.

Shahrukh Khan in Chalte Chalte: 'Problem kis rishte mein nahi hoti' – This could well be then underlining statement of Chalte Chalte where Shah Rukh Khan played a husband who flawed, and then regretted. As Raj Mathur, he did have some playful antics to display in the first half of the film. However, there was a new actor on display once he and Rani Mukerji were shown as a married couple.
