Movie review: Airlift; Superstar Akshay Kumar excels as the lead actor in this heart-stopping thriller that is based on true events – the masterminding by an unsung hero of the biggest human aviation evacuation in history in the wake of the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq's Saddam Hussein in August 1990. Airlift narrates the dramatic story of an evacuation carried out over a period of two months with the help of as many as 488 flights – a glorious chapter in India's civil aviation history. Movie review: Airlift; filmed primarily in Ras al-Khaimah, Airlift follows an Indian business tycoon (Akshay Kumar) whose world comes crashing down when Saddam's army takes control of Kuwait. The entrepreneur, Ranjit Katyal (Akshay Kumar), has the all the wealth and the connections to be able to flee the conflict zone with his wife Amrita (Nimrat Kaur) and his little daughter, but he chooses to stay back and use his clout to help the 1.7 lakh Indians stranded in Kuwait survive the ordeal.
