Many government departments announce a productivity-linked bonus for their employees ahead of Diwali. The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has issued an order announcing that department employees will receive a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 60 days’ salary for the financial year 2024-25.

This bonus will benefit Group C, Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), and non-gazetted Group B employees, Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), and full-time casual labourers. The government has decided to release this bonus before Diwali to provide employees with both relief and joy during the festive season.

Those employees who have resigned or reitred or left services or proceeded on deputation within the Department of Posts or those who have proceeded on deputation outside the postal department after March 31, 2025 will also be entitled to bonus.

“In case of all such employees, the Productivity Linked Bonus admissible will be as per provisions…,” the order said.

Who will actually be the beneficiaries?

According to this order, the bonus will be available to the following categories of employees:

Regular employees: Group C, MTS, and non-gazetted Group B

Regularly employed Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS)

Temporary and full-time casual workers

How will the productivity-linked bonus be calculated?

The bonus will be calculated based on the average salary of the employees. For regular employees, the bonus amount will be determined using the formula: average salary × 60 days ÷ 30.4. However, the salary limit for calculating the bonus has been set at Rs 7,000 per month.

For Gramin Dak Sevaks, the bonus will be calculated based on their Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) and dearness allowance. Casual workers will be given an ad-hoc bonus based on a notional salary of Rs 1,200.

Those leaving the service will also benefit.

The department has also clarified that employees who leave, retire, or transfer after March 31, 2025, will also receive a proportionate bonus.

This 60-day bonus news is no less than a pre-Diwali gift for these employees working in the postal department. The inclusion of Gramin Dak Sevaks and temporary employees serving in rural areas has created an atmosphere of joy in the department regarding this decision.

This government move not only recognises the hard work of employees but also provides financial relief during the festive season.
