Aadhaar stands as a pivotal Know Your Customer (KYC) document in India, essential for accessing government subsidies and various welfare schemes. Blue Aadhaar Card: Biometric Data Requirements

Unlike adults, no biometric data is required for issuing the card to children. Instead, the UID is processed based on demographic information and a facial photograph linked with the UID of their parents. However, biometric data updates for ten fingers, iris scans, and facial photographs become necessary when the child turns five and again at fifteen; failure to update renders the card invalid. The biometric data update for teenage Aadhaar cardholders is free of charge.

In 2018, UIDAI introduced the concept of the ‘Baal Aadhaar’ card tailored for children under five years old. Distinguished by its blue colour, unlike the standard white Aadhaar card for adults, this card features a unique 12-digit identification number for young children.

Parents can apply for the Baal Aadhaar for a newborn, using the birth certificate or hospital discharge slip as valid enrollment documents. Additionally, school IDs of their children can be utilized for enrollment.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to registering for the Blue Aadhaar card:

  • Visit the UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in
  • Navigate to the Aadhaar card registration option.
  • Enter the child’s name, parent/guardian’s phone number, and other required information.
  • Select an appointment slot for Blue Aadhaar card registration.
  • Book an appointment at the nearest enrollment center.
  • Visit the enrollment center with your child, carrying essential documents including your Aadhaar card, address proof, and the child’s birth certificate.
  • Provide your Aadhaar details for linkage with the child’s UID; only a photograph of the child is required, no biometric data.
  • The document verification process commences.
  • You will receive a message on your registered mobile number upon completion of the process.
  • Collect the acknowledgement slip.

A Blue Aadhaar card will be issued in your child’s name within 60 days of verification.
