The Indian stock market ended Friday on a green note. The Sensex closed at 81,910.91, gaining 0.44%, while the Nifty settled at 25,114.00, up 0.43%. The Nifty Bank also ended the day at 54,809.30, marking a rise of 0.26%.

Among the big winners, Bharat Electronics stole the spotlight with its shares climbing nearly 3% to hit an intra-day high of Rs 398. Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, and Maruti were also among the top gainers from the Sensex pack

Stocks that struggled

Some notable laggards from the Sensex 30 included Hindustan Unilever, Trent, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, and others that slipped into the red by the close.

Action beyond the index: Midday movers

Paras Defence gained traction after securing a Rs 26.6 crore order from Opto Electronics Factory, while JBM Auto surged over 11% to touch Rs 696.70 on the NSE following fresh funding from IFC to boost its e-bus plans. RailTel advanced more than 4% after bagging new civic body orders worth over Rs 103 crore. Meanwhile, Lupin rose 2% as brokerages like Investec and Nomura turned bullish on the stock after a USFDA approval for one of its key products.

Top sectors in today’s trade

Shipping, defence, and metals were among the top performing sectors in today’s trade. The shipping sector gained 4%. Similarly, the defence stocks also rose 4%. Non-ferrous metals also moved higher with a 3% rise, and the plastics sector added 2% to end the day on a positive note.

Best and worst performing business groups

In group performances, Lakshmi Group Coimbatore led the gains with a rise of nearly 5%, followed by Vedanta Group, which added 3%. Shriram Group also closed higher with a gain of nearly 2%. On the other hand, Arvind Mafatlal Group slipped 2%, Future Group and Adventz Group fell 2% each, respectively.
