GIFT Nifty indicated that Indian equity indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 may see a lower start on Thursday as US stocks closed on a flatline and mixed cues from Asian markets. 

GIFT Nifty was trading 18 points or 0.07% lower at 23,628 on Thursday. Previously, on Wednesday, the NSE Nifty 50 closed 324 points or 1.36% lower to settle at 23,559, while the BSE Sensex fell 984 points or 1.25% to finish at 77,691.

Key global cues to know on November 14, 2024

Asian Markets

Asia-Pacific markets were trading on a mixed note following the overnight US markets. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.42% at 38,883. The Korean index Kospi was up 0.61% at 2,431. However, the Asia Dow was trading 0.92% lower at 3,694.25. The benchmark Chinese index, Shanghai Composite was trading 0.28% lower at 3,429. Also, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the CPI data, rising 2.6% in October while it was up 2.4% in September.

Wall Street

US indices closed flat on Wednesday as the post-election rally lost steam. The S&P 500 inched up 0.02% to close at 5,985. The Nasdaq Composite ended the session 0.26% lower at 19,230. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 230 points, or 0.11%, to end at 43,958. 

US Dollar 

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading up 0.12% at 106.60 on Thursday morning. The index measures the US dollar’s strength or weakness against major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. Also, the Indian rupee was hovering near an all-time low on Wednesday after falling to a fresh lifetime low in the previous session.

Crude Oil

WTI crude prices were trading at $68.34 up by 0.13%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $72.16 up by 0.17%, on Thursday morning. 

FII, DII Data

Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net sellers of shares net worth Rs 2,502.58 crore. Meanwhile, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 6,145.24 crore on November 13, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
