Apple has introduced a red coloured option for its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Apple had earlier rolled out special red coloured cases for the iPhone, but now it has unveiled the phone itself, in that colour. The new iPhone has a red coloured aluminium finish and has been launched as part of Apple’s partnership with RED. The new RED Special Edition iPhone lineup will be available in 128GB and 256GB variants starting from $749 and sold at Apple Authorised Resellers. Other than the new colour, Apple already has the iPhone 7 in colours like jet black, black, silver, gold and rose gold. Apple, today also rolled out its new iPad and an iPhone SE with bigger storage capabilities of 32GB and 128GB.
The partnership between RED and Apple is for highlighting the AIDS fundraising campaign and the company are doing it through red-themed models as well as applications. The Cupertino giant had recently on World AIDS Day, had turned the App Store and associated top apps the colour red for the world AIDS day. Under the campaign, the company donates a particular percentage of sales to the Global Fund in a bid to support HIV/AIDS programs and eradicate the disease, through ‘testing, counselling, treatment and prevention programs’. Apple announced the roll out in a press release, where Tim Cook has informed that the (RED) device gives users a chance to contribute to the Global Fund for AIDS research. The Apple CEO said, “Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.”

Earlier, there were rumours surrounding the launch of a Red coloured device by Apple. A Japanese blog for Apple called Macotakara had reported that Apple, for the 2017 version of its flagship smartphone, will introduce it in a red casing. Macotakara was the first blog which predicted the headphone jack removal from the iPhone, among many other rumours which turned out to be true. They have a decent track record when it comes to Apple products.
