Matrimony.com founder and CEO Murugavel Janakiraman in a late night post on Saturday said Google has not restored over 150 apps of the company yet. This despite an assurance from communications and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw that the government will not allow deletion of apps.
Janakiraman’s statement came after Google reinstated some of the delisted apps on its Play Store. Most of the apps that have been reinstated are returning as consumption-only apps and not with in-app billing.
So far, Google has reinstated Naukri, 99Acres and Shiksha, all by InfoEdge, besides Shaadi.com.
“When we contacted senior officials at Google we were told they will publish only those apps that agree to the Google billing payment policy,” Janakiraman said. He said there was a sense of relief among startups after the minister’s assurance but they were disappointed when only a few apps were reinstated.
On Monday, the government is expected to meet the tech giant and the app companies to seek clarity on the matter and resolve the dispute.
