Another day, another development of artificial intelligence (AI). Amidst the continuous launch of AI products/features by different companies, Google brings another AI model. Named Genie2, the model is capable of generating interactive 3D worlds from just a single prompt.
As reported by TechCrunch, DeepMind has launched a model that can generate an “endless” variety of playable 3D worlds. Notably, DeepMind is Google’s AI research organization.
Introducing Genie 2
The new AI model by DeepMind named Genie 2 is an updated version of DeepMind’s Genie, released earlier this year. With Genie 2 you can generate real-time and an interactive scene from a single image and text description. For example, you want to create a new world as per your imagination. You just need to add a text describing the world. You can also add a customized image for reference. The AI model will create it for you! As the name suggests ‘Genie’ it’s truly a genie fulfilling your wishes.
DeepMind claims that Genie 2 can generate a “vast diversity of rich 3D worlds,” including worlds in which you can take actions. From jumping to swimming, everything could be done by just using a mouse or keyboard. The AI model is trained on videos and has the ability to enhance animations, object interactions, lighting, reflections, physics and the behavior of “NPCs.”
Reportedly, the models are quite similar to some models developed by Israeli startup Decart and Fei-Fei Li’s company, World Labs. Please note that both of these models are under development.
The future roadmap
Apart from the above mentioned features, DeepMind says that Genie 2 can also generate consistent worlds with different perspectives For example there is a first-person and some isometric views. It will show two different ‘3D worlds’ for up to a minute, with the majority lasting 10 to 20 seconds.
Some analysts suggest that the Genie 2’s simulations can look like AAA video games. The new AI tool can create gaming world scenarios and 3D environments.
However, critics have raised questions about consistency, artificing, and hallucination-related issues. Some even asked if Genie 2 was basically creating unauthorized copies of the video games it just saw or was being trained on. In response to this, DeepMind’s team has said that Genie 2 can only remember parts of a simulated scene. This means it won’t be copying and saving data of some random games. This makes it safe and away from copyright infringement issues, the company explained.
