The Union Budget 2025 has been hailed as a transformative blueprint, with industry experts applauding the government’s focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital governance, and education reforms. The proposed initiatives are seen as essential for shaping India’s future growth trajectory, particularly in sectors driven by technology and innovation.
Rajesh Varrier, EVP and Global Head of Operations at Cognizant, lauded the government’s emphasis on AI innovation and workforce transformation. He highlighted the creation of Centres of Excellence in AI, especially within the education sector, as a pivotal step in building an AI-ready workforce. “The government’s commitment to AI skilling is crucial,” Varrier said, noting that Cognizant has always believed that successful AI integration hinges on equipping talent with the right skills. He expressed confidence that these initiatives would not only accelerate AI adoption but also bolster India’s position as a global leader in the field. “This budget sets the stage for AI-led growth and innovation, enabling industries to enhance efficiency and drive future growth.”
Ajay Gupta, Founder & CEO of Bachpan Play School, echoed similar sentiments, particularly around the education-focused proposals. The setting up of a Centre of Excellence for AI in Education stood out to Gupta as a monumental shift towards futuristic and inclusive education. “This initiative promises to revolutionize learning across all segments of society,” Gupta stated, emphasising how enhancing broadband connectivity in government schools would bridge the educational divide and bring accessible learning to underserved regions. He also pointed out the increased focus on skill-based education and entrepreneurial thinking, which aligns with the government’s vision to strengthen MSMEs and the broader economy.
Both experts agreed that the Budget 2025 would pave the way for an AI-driven future that benefits all sectors of society. With an eye on the emerging needs of India’s workforce and the educational landscape, these initiatives could indeed set the stage for sustainable, inclusive growth in the years to come. As the country adapts to an AI-powered economy, the focus on skilling and entrepreneurship could become the cornerstone of India’s next phase of development.
