Amazon India has unveiled scholarships for 500 female students as part of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship programme in India. This initiative aims to provide crucial resources and opportunities for women pursuing careers in technology, showcasing Amazon’s dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion in the tech sector while empowering the next generation of female leaders, according to an official release.

Under this programme, selected students will receive Rs 50,000 annually throughout their computer science or related studies. Additionally, they will benefit from financial assistance, mentorship from Amazon employees, and specialized coding boot camps, all geared towards facilitating their transition into successful tech careers and nurturing future women leaders in technology. Furthermore, this year’s scholars will also receive personal laptops to ensure seamless participation in various programme activities such as boot camps and webinars, the release mentioned.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we are proud to reaffirm Amazon’s dedication to bridging the gap between talent and opportunity while promoting diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. Through the Amazon Future Engineer Scholar Intern programme, we are investing in the next generation of female leaders in technology to build a better world for all of us,” Akshay Kashyap, lead, Amazon Future Engineer, Amazon India, said.

In 2023, the programme expanded to offer 68 early paid tech internships to top-performing scholars from the first cohort, setting a new industry standard for early internships and paving the way for potential full-time employment at Amazon. The programme’s outreach and application process have been streamlined through partnerships with non-profit organizations like the Foundation for Excellence (FFE), resulting in significant interest and participation from aspiring female candidates across India, as per the release.

Beyond its scholarship programme, Amazon India claims to have committed to empowering women across its ecosystem, including Seller Partners, Operations Network Partners, Community Beneficiaries, Employees and Associates. Through various initiatives and benefits, Amazon endeavours to foster an inclusive culture that empowers women both within and beyond its organisation, enhancing the overall Amazon experience, it added.
