Telegram, the popular messaging app, has mysteriously vanished from the App Store on iPhone and iPad. Moreover, the lightweight version, Telegram X seems to have been removed from the App Store without any explanations from Telegram. This comes after Telegram announced the launch of Telegram X on Android, which is speculated to be loosely related to the removal of apps on iOS.
According to some Reddit users, both the Telegram messaging apps cannot be found in the App Store. While the reasons behind this move are unclear, a Reddit user claims to have received a message from Telegram support saying that the removal of Telegram and Telegram X was done by mistake and they will be back soon in the App Store. “This is not intended (source: Telegram Support). Hopefully, it will be resolved quickly. Both versions should come back soon,” the support message reads.
Surprisingly, the Reddit post relates the removal of Telegram apps from the App Store to the release of the Telegram X app on Android. While this sounds unreasonable, it is also worth noting that the two events happened within a short span of time. Some other users are said to be speculating that Telegram might be planning an update on the iOS platforms for both the apps but it inadvertently deleted them. Besides, the removal of the Telegram and Telegram X apps is said to have happened globally, as many Twitter users reported this event from around the world.
In line with the above incident, Telegram announced the Telegram X app for Android. The Telegram X app is a lightweight version of the original app experimented to bring speed, better animations, and improved usability. It comes with features such as a redesigned music player, attachment menu, and optimised profiles along with a bubble-free mode for chats. The Telegram X app is now available to download in the Google Play store.
