Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said on Wednesday that the slogan of “400 paar” backfired for the ally BJP and his own party Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha Elections 2024. “People kept this in mind and it backfired. Their vehicle could not even cross 300. In several states they got a major setback. In Maharashtra too, Mahayuti did not get the success it was expecting,” Shinde said.
“Due to the 400 paar slogan, people thought that there may be some gadbad (trouble) in future on issues like changing the Constitution and removing reservations,” he said as quoted by PTI.
The Maharashtra CM further praised Prime Minister Modi for the hard work he has done in the last one decade “without taking any holiday”. However, Shinde added, “But what happened? The narrative that was set harmed us in some places. We suffered losses in Maharashtra too. The constitution will be changed, reservations will go… these were the discussions… nothing of this kind was to happen. But ‘400 paar’ number created all the problems.”
Shide also highlighted that India is an agricultural country and farmers are the provider, pointing that he has plans to meet the union agriculture minister to discuss minimum support price of onion, cotton and soybean. On support prices of crops, he said, “No one can be happy if the farmer is unhappy.”
