A day ahead of his bail hearing in a Delhi court, jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia penned a letter to the people of the national capital expressing gratitude to his constituents in the Patparganj assembly constituency for their support and care towards his ailing wife.

In his second letter from Tihar Jail, Sisodia drew parallels between his imprisonment and the struggles faced by freedom fighters during the British colonial rule.

“See you soon outside. Long live the education revolution, love you all. In the last one year, I miss everyone. I remembered everyone in the last one year. Everyone worked together with honesty. Just like everyone fought at the time of independence, similarly, we are fighting for good education and schools,” he wrote.

“The dream of independence had come true even after British dictatorship. Similarly, one day every child will get proper and good education…,” Sisodia’s letter dated March 15 read.

Drawing a comparison between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and the British Raj, Sisodia said that he was inspired by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, who endured imprisonment for their principles.

Stressing the importance of education, the former deputy chief minister wrote, “To be a developed country, it is necessary to have good education and schools.” He expressed happiness about the progress in education in Delhi under Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership and shared that hearing about similar improvements in Punjab also brings him joy.

“The British were also very proud of their power, the British also used to put people in jail on false charges. The British kept Gandhi in jail for many years. Nelson Mandela was also jailed. These people are my inspiration and you all are my strength,” Sisodia wrote.

Expressing gratitude for the care extended to his wife, Sisodia conveyed, “My love for you has increased after being in jail. You took great care of my wife. Seema gets emotional while talking about all of you.”

Sisodia, currently under investigation by the ED and CBI in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy case, was arrested by the CBI on February 26 last year. His bail hearing is scheduled for Saturday.
