The occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi has enveloped entire Maharashtra and everyone can be seen celebrating the occasion in their own way. Taking it one step further, actor Riteish Deshmukh has created an eco-friendly idol of Lord Ganesha and has dedicated it to the farmers of the country. The 39-year-old , who is currently in the United States, took to Twitter and shared a video that shows him celebrating the festival in an eco-friendly way. Along with the video, he writes: “Celebrating #GaneshChaturthi in America, Made an idol, I humbly dedicate it to our Farmers. #ECO #Planter #Visarjan #SonOfAFarmer #Bappa.” Riteish also thanked his wife Genelia for inspiring him to do this. “I wanna thank Baiko @geneliad for inspiring me to do this & also 4 shooting this video. God bless you all with happiness prosperity & love,” he tweeted later.

In the video, the subtitles read that “the turban on the head of Lord Ganesh represents every farmer in India. As a son of a farmer, I dedicate this idol to them.” His father was former Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, who passed away in 2012.

Soon after the Bank Chor actor shared the video, he got flooded with praises from his B’town colleagues including Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar and others.

The video which was shot by Genelia shows Riteish making a Ganesh idol with eco-friendly clay and soon the actor was seen holding a perfectly built idol of Lord Ganesha.

Over the years, Maharashtra has been criticised for disturbing the water ecology as large number of idols made from plaster of paris are immersed into the sea. While the entire state enjoys the festival, people forget how they end up polluting the environment. This was not for the first time that Riteish stepped up to do something for the environment and we admire both the actors for putting up a small yet influential effort to help save the environment.
