A 41-year-old man was arrested in Dhanbad after he opened fire inside the Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express on Thursday following an altercation with the coach attendant over a seat. However, no casualties have been reported so far, railway officials have confirmed.
The incident occurred around 9:45 PM on Thursday inside the B-7 coach between Dhanbad and Gomoh stations under the Dhanbad division of the East Central Railway (ECR).
The accused has been identified as Harvinder Singh and is a retired Army personnel.
Amresh Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Dhanbad rail division, said that prima facie it appears that the accused was in an inebriated state, when he opened fire.
Singh had a ticket for the Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, but he mistakenly boarded the Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express on Thursday evening at Dhanbad railway station, according to a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official.
Singh, after boarding the train, had an altercation with the coach attendant over a seat. Amid the argument, he allegedly opened fire from his revolver.
