The Pune district administration has ordered the closure of schools and colleges in Pune City and the Pimpri Chinchwad area for Thursday (26 Sept 2024.) because of heavy downpours. The IMD has warned that there will be heavy rains along with thunderstorms and lightning in the region. The directive has been released by the District Collector Suhas Divase. As per the latest report by PTI, rainfall has stopped in most parts of Mumbai on Thursday morning.
Pune witnessed heavy rainfall which led to waterlogging in several areas of the city on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, severe rainfall has resulted in widespread water logging in several areas of Mumbai, disrupted local train services, and nearly 14 incoming flights have been diverted. The Met Department has declared a red alert for Mumbai along with adjoining districts like Palghar, Thane, and Raigad for today (25 September.) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also announced holidays for all the colleges and schools because of adverse weather conditions.
The BMC posted on its X account stating, ”Mumbaikars, if not necessary, avoid stepping out of home.” Some areas were even recorded to have received more than 10 mm of rainfall within five hours on Wednesday. Thousands of commuters were stranded at CSMT and other stations as local train services were stopped between Thane and Kurla stations. Traffic snarls were also reported across several areas in Mumbai.
According to the latest data from BMC, the level of rainfall received in the city was recorded between 5 pm to 10 PM in the financial capital of India, western suburbs and eastern suburbs were at 87.79 mm, 167.48 mm, and 95.57 mm.
