A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to the ‘On Nation One Election’ panel rejecting the idea of simultaneous polls, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Friday took a jibe at the Trinamool Congress chief saying that she should stop ‘thinking’ about the issue altogether.
On Thursday, Mamata wrote to the high-level committee on “One Nation, One Election,” distancing herself from the concept of simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Speaking to ANI, Adhikari argued that Mamata Banerjee’s role does not involve contemplating on the implementation of ‘one nation, one election.’
“That (Mamata’s remark) means nothing. PM Modi will do what the nation wants. What is she? She is the owner of a Private Limited party. PM Modi is there to think about the nation. ‘Abki baar, 400 ke paar’. Mamata should stop thinking about all of this. This is not her job,” he said.

Adhikari further targeted Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of “allowing” Rohingyas to trespass into West Bengal and engage in criminal activities.”Her job is to let Rohingyas trespass in West Bengal and rob. Let her rob…” Adhikari said.
Mamata Banerjee rejects ‘one nation, one election’ proposal
On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee firmly rejected the BJP-led Centre’s “one nation, one election” proposal, stating that it harboured a “design to subvert” constitutional arrangements and pave the way for a presidential form of government through the backdoor.
In a letter directed to Dr Nitin Chandra, the secretary of the Centre’s high-level committee on ‘One Nation One Election,’ she conveyed her party’s strong opposition to the proposal, citing concerns about its potential impact on “federalism.”

Along with that, she raised issues ranging from the interpretation of the concept to the potential “premature dissolution” of the Lok Sabha or Assemblies.
Banerjee expressed “basic conceptual difficulties in agreeing” with the proposal.
“I incidentally suspect that the instant design to subvert the basic structure of the Indian Constitutional arrangements is aimed at converting the polity of ours into a Presidential system. With profound considerations, the Constituent Assembly of India had presented us with a Parliamentary / Cabinet system of government, keeping in view the diversities and pluralities of our great country. But now your design seems to be to tilt the system in favour of Presidentialisation.” portion of letter read.
