Nitin Nabin BJP National President Highlights: Nitin Nabin officially takes the reins as the BJP’s National President today. Following the close of the nomination withdrawal process on Monday, January 19, the 45-year-old leader from Bihar stands as the unopposed successor to JP Nadda. As the sole candidate remaining, Nabin now steps into the party’s top leadership role to chart its future course.

The event took place at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several BJP Chief Ministers.

Nitin Nabin’s caste and net-worth

Nabin belongs to the Kayastha community, specifically the Chitraguptavanshi Kayastha group. According to his latest election affidavits for 2025–26, his total assets are worth around Rs 3.1 crore. These include movable assets such as bank deposits and vehicles like a Toyota Innova Crysta and a Mahindra Scorpio, along with immovable property owned by him and his wife, according to a report by Good Returns.

Nitin Nabin’s Bihar connection

Nabin’s political journey is deeply rooted in Patna, Bihar. A five-time MLA, he has represented Patna West and later Bankipur since 2006. His consistent electoral success in the state capital has helped him build a strong grassroots base and emerge as one of the BJP’s most reliable leaders in Bihar.

He is the son of late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a senior BJP leader who played a key role in strengthening the party’s organisation in Bihar in the 1990s. His father was a four-time MLA from the Patna West constituency.

Nabin, 45, was appointed BJP’s national working president on December 14. He will become the youngest leader to hold the post of national president and will take over from senior leader JP Nadda as the party’s 12th national president. 

Backed by top BJP leadership

Nitin Nabin’s candidature has been backed by top party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Several chief ministers, including Yogi Adityanath, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Nayab Singh Saini and Pramod Sawant, were present during the process. Leaders from Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Jharkhand and other states also filed nomination papers supporting Nabin.

Senior leaders such as JP Nadda, Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav and Kiren Rijiju submitted nomination papers in his favour. Later, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and other state leaders also submitted another set of nomination papers backing his candidature.

How the selection process works

The election was finalised by an electoral college that included members of the party’s national and state councils. According to BJP rules, a candidate needs support from at least 20 members of a state’s electoral college and must have spent at least 15 years in the party.

'Where is the election? Are they playing Big Boss?': Cong on BJP electing new President

The Congress on Tuesday took a swipe at the BJP after it formally declared Nitin Nabin as its new chief, saying the ruling party announced the president first and then stated that there would be an election but there was none.

The opposition party also took a dig at Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, saying he is unhappy as he did not get anything to "manipulate" in this process.

"Gyanesh Kumar wants to resign in protest; he has no role, he can't even influence, he can't even manipulate anything," the Congress' media and publicity department head, Pawan Khera, said while targeting the CEC, whom the opposition party has been attacking alleging irregularities in elections.
