In a significant breakthrough in the NEET-UG paper leak case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Rockey alias Rakesh Ranjan, a key suspect who had been evading authorities since the investigation into irregularities in the entrance exam commenced.

Chase and Capture

Officials reported that Rockey, believed to be a close relative of mastermind Sanjeev Mukhia and hailing from Nalanda, was captured on the outskirts of Patna.

The arrest marks a culmination of relentless efforts by the CBI, which had been on his trail ever since assuming charge of the case. Rockey was taken into custody early Thursday morning and subsequently presented before a special court in Patna, where he was remanded to 10 days of CBI custody. Following his arrest, the agency conducted searches at multiple locations in Patna and Kolkata to gather further evidence.

Earlier this week, the CBI had conducted extensive searches at 15 locations across Bihar and Jharkhand, leading to the seizure of crucial evidence pertinent to the investigation. Prior to Rockey’s apprehension, the agency had already arrested the principal and vice principal of Oasis school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, along with two others accused of providing premises where incriminating burnt question papers were discovered by Bihar Police.
