In sharp reactions to the political turmoil in Bihar, poll strategist Prashant Kishor has called Chief Minister Nitish Kumar “paltumaar” and said flip-flops have become a part of his politics. He did not spare the BJP either and said its leaders, who were criticising Kumar a few days back, are now welcoming him.

“I have been saying this since starting that Nitish Kumar can swap anytime. This has become a part of his politics. But today’s developments have shown that all parties and leaders in Bihar are ‘paltumaars’. It is now proved that (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi, (Home Minister) Amit Shah and the BJP are also ‘paltumaars’,” Kishor said in a press meet, a video of which has been shared by ANI.

Nitish Kumar resigned as the Bihar Chief Minister and rejoined the BJP-led NDA to form a new government in the state on Sunday.

Prashant Kishor also made a big claim that the Janata Dal (United)-BJP alliance formed in Bihar will not last long. Speaking to the media, Kishor said that the newly formed alliance in Bihar will not last until the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, which potentially means the JD(U)-BJP government would have a life span of a year or less, according to a PTI report.

“The formation that currently exists, in which Nitish Kumar is the face of the NDA and has the BJP’s backing, won’t exist until the (Bihar) assembly elections. I can give you this in writing,” Kishor said.

The poll strategist had briefly joined the JDU in 2018 and was elevated to the post of the party vice-president. He was, however, expelled shortly after his remarks criticising the JDU’s decision to back the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Bihar power shift

Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record ninth time. The swearing-in ceremony took place at 5 pm on Sunday, with two Deputy Chief Ministers – Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha – and six other cabinet ministers also taking oath.

Earlier on Sunday, Kumar resigned as Chief Minister and became the first leader to walk out of the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar and the INDIA bloc alliance, formed to take on the Modi government in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, ending his alliance with the RJD and the Congress one-and-a-half years after he parted ways with the BJP and returned to the Opposition alliance.
