Two people working at a beach shack were arrested after they allegedly assaulted three veterinarians, including a woman, in Goa’s Candolim following an argument late on Friday night.

At around midnight on Friday, the accused shack owner and his staff allegedly abused a woman veterinarian from Rajasthan and assaulted her two friends with a bamboo stick. The two victims suffered injuries on their head and back and were rushed to a hospital for treatment, according to the complaint, Indian Express reported.

The accused also allegedly pushed the woman and misbehaved with her.

One of the doctors told the media, “We had gone for dinner to a beachside place around 11.30 pm. After half an hour, when we were returning, two-three people were drinking liquor at an under-construction shack. They passed an objectionable remark about our woman friend, who was walking ahead of us, and when we confronted them, they denied passing any comment.”

This led to an altercation. When the three doctors were walking to their car, at least seven-eight accused men arrived and they hit one of the doctors from behind with a bamboo stick. The accused also hit his friend.

“When our woman friend intervened, they pulled her hair and slapped her too. The accused also tried to intimidate us by bringing a pitbull dog. They had come to beat us. The accused said, ‘you are not from Goa, you should not have come here’,” one of the doctors claimed, IE reported.

Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at Calangute police station under version sections of the BNS.

Police, in a statement, identified the accused as Jitendra Singh (24) and Arun Kumar (25) and said they have been arrested.

Taking a dig at the BJP-led state government, Goa Congress chief Amit Patkar pointed to the incident to allege that Goa is becoming a “haven for shady businesses and lawlessness” under the BJP.

“Attacks on veterinary doctors in Calangute, women unsafe in their own villages – is this the ‘tourism’ Dr Pramod Sawant and (tourism minister) Rohan Khaunte promote? Governance for sale to the highest bidder, while Goans suffer. Complete failure of law and order in Goa under the most corrupt BJP government in Goa who have no moral right to be in power,” he posted on X.
