At least seven babies lost their lives and several others were injured in a massive fire that broke out at a children’s hospital in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar late on Saturday, said officials, reported ANI.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, a total of 12 newborn children were rescued of which 1 is on the ventilator and 5 others are admitted to the hospital, reported ANI.
The Delhi Fire Services were informed of the fire on a call at 11.32 pm after which nine fire tenders were rushed to the site. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.
“A fire call from Baby Care Centre, near ITI, Block B of Vivek Vihar area was received. A total of nine fire tenders were dispatched,” said the DFS Chief Atul Garg.
A fire officer at the site said, “At 11:32 pm, Fire Service Control Room received information that fire broke out at a hospital…total 16 fire tenders reached the spot and fire has been extinguished completely. 2 buildings were affected by the fire, one is the hospital building and 2 floors of a residential building on the right side also caught fire…11-12 people were rescued and they were taken to hospital.”
Another incident occurred in New Delhi’s Shahdara area where a building caught fire and 13 people were rescued. The fire department received a call at 2:35 am informing about the fire after which firefighters were rushed to the spot. They rescued 13 people and shifted them to a hospital.
Earlier on Saturday, 27 people were killed in another fire incident in Rajkot, Gujarat after a massive fire broke out in a crowded game zone leading to the collapse of the building.
