Bharatiya Janta Party-affiliated ABVP has won three out of four top posts of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU). The results of the election were announced on Saturday, September 10. The Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) managed one seat. DU is a politically active institution and elections were held on September 9, for the four top posts. Chief Election Commissioner for theDU polls had informed that there were 17 candidates who competed for the posts of President, Vice President & Secretary in the Delhi University Students’ Union. Seven candidates battled out for the post of President and four fought for the post of Vice-President. Three contestants vied for the post of Secretary and Joint Secretary. The results after counting the votes were scheduled to be declared on Saturday, September 10.
In the last year’s elections too, ABVP which is also backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), won all the big posts by huge margins. Amit Tanwar from ABVP will be the new President, defeating Nikhil Yadav from NSUI and Kawalpreet Kaur from AISA. While Priyanka Chabri has been elected as the Vice President, Ankit Sangwan will be the Secretary. Both of them are from ABVP. NSUI’s Mohit Sangwan has been elected as the Joint Secretary. After the results, Twitter users had a lot to react on. While many congratulated the ABVP, there were many who mocked the Left and NSUI. Here are a few of the reactions:

DUSU polls or ‘Goonda’ polls?
#DUSUPolls is a democracy of the goons, by the goons and for the goons. Honest #DUSUPolls would be called #DUGUPolls. Where G is for Goondas

Last year NSUI which is affiliated to Congress, All India Students’ Association (AISA), affiliated to the Communist Party of India and Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), affiliated to the Delhi’s ruling party Aam Aadmi Party, all were defeated by ABVP.
