The Delhi Traffic Police in its official data revealed that there was a significant increase in the number of challans that were issued for drunk driving on Holi (Monday). There was a 47.4 per cent rise in challans as compared to last year’s figure of 559. Additionally, the data indicated a drop in the number of accidents that occurred on Holi. According to the data, there were 11 reported accidents, down from 24 in 2023.

To ensure the safety of citizens, the police adopted proactive measures against traffic violations, particularly targeting drunk drivers and those riding two-wheelers without helmets. Additional personnel were deployed at key junction points and the police were seen using breathalysers for rigorous checks.

The police said that a detailed analysis of the prosecution data also revealed that 1,524 people were fined for riding two-wheelers without helmets on Holi day. Moreover, 1,241 individuals were prosecuted for various offenses including driving using tinted glass, driving without seat belts, and of course triple-riding.

Comparative analysis of accidents on Holi day in 2023 and 2024 showcased a notable decrease this year, which the Delhi Traffic Police attributed to the robust measures implemented by them during the festival.

Last year’s Holi saw a total of 7,643 challans issued, including 559 for drunk driving, 698 for triple-riding on two-wheelers, 3,410 for riding without helmets, 312 for driving without seat belts, 215 for tinted glass, and 2,449 for other traffic violations.
