In response to the recent explosion near a CRPF school in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar area, the Delhi Police has significantly enhanced security measures across the city, particularly in crowded areas such as markets, malls, and transport hubs. The blast, which occurred on Sunday morning, caused damage to the school’s boundary wall, nearby shop signs, and vehicles, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The explosion has heightened security concerns, especially during the busy festival season, prompting authorities to take swift action to prevent any further incidents.
Security beefed up
A senior police official confirmed that the police are working closely with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and other stakeholders to maintain a heightened level of vigilance at railway and Metro stations. “We have instructed our teams to keep a sharp lookout for any suspicious activities. Additional personnel have been deployed, and both foot and motorcycle patrols have been intensified,” the officer said.
The police are also conducting anti-sabotage checks along railway tracks using dog squads and bomb disposal teams to ensure public safety. Furthermore, surveillance has been increased at key locations in Delhi, including prominent markets such as Chandni Chowk, Azadpur, and Ghazipur, which see a large influx of visitors during the festive season. CCTV cameras are being closely monitored, and police control room (PCR) vans have been put on high alert to respond quickly to any emergency.
In addition to the increased patrols, female police personnel have been deployed in greater numbers to ensure security in public areas. The police have also restricted loading and unloading activities in Sadar Bazar between 12 PM and 8 PM to manage traffic flow and enable thorough security checks in the market area.
Connection with terror-related activities
The blast has raised concerns about potential terror-related activities, with investigators now probing a possible Khalistani connection. A Telegram post, attributed to a group called “Justice League India,” claimed responsibility for the explosion, stating it was in retaliation for the alleged targeting of pro-Khalistan separatists by Indian agents. The post surfaced on social media on Sunday evening, leading the police to write to Telegram for details about the group and its members.
CCTV footage recovered from the scene shows a suspect in a white T-shirt near the site of the explosion the night before the incident. It is suspected that an improvised explosive device (IED), hidden in a plastic bag, was planted in a pit near the school wall. The Delhi Police’s Special Cell, Crime Branch, and local police are working together to investigate the case.
An FIR has been registered under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the Explosives Act, and forensic teams are analyzing samples collected from the blast site. With security efforts intensified, Delhi Police is determined to ensure the safety of its residents during the festival season.
