Delhi Assembly Elections: AAP heavyweights Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain – key accused in the Delhi liquor scam – lost in the Delhi Assembly elections.
AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost the battle against BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma from the New Delhi seat. Congress’ Sandeep Dixit ate into Kejriwal’s vote share.
Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister and right-hand man of Kejriwal, was defeated by Tarvinder Singh Marwah of BJP from Patparganj seat of East Delhi.
Another liquor scam accused Satyendra Jain, an AAP heavyweight, lost against Karnail Singh of BJP from Shakur Basti.
The BJP won 48 seats and AAP on 22 seats. Congress once again failed to open its account. There are 70 seats in Delhi for which mainly two parties BJP and AAP were seen fighting to form a government. The halfway mark is 36 to form the government and the BJP has comfortably crossed it.
The BJP will form the government after 27 years in Delhi and the majority of exit polls also predicted the saffron party coming back to power in Delhi in the 2025 assembly polls.
These are still early trends, and these may change as the counting of votes progresses, as we have seen in past elections.
