In a major upset in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reportedly lost the New Delhi seat by 3,182 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Sahib Singh secured victory in the high-profile constituency, marking a significant blow to AAP. Kejriwal, who has been the face of AAP’s governance in Delhi for over a decade, faced stiff competition as BJP surged ahead in several key constituencies. This defeat adds to AAP’s challenges as the party struggles to retain power amid BJP’s strong electoral performance in the national capital.

In the New Delhi constituency, Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal is trailing by 11,070 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Parvesh Sahib Singh, who has garnered 19,267 votes is leading. Indian National Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit is trailing far behind with 3013 votes.

Amid the ongoing vote counting, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has raised concerns over the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) refusal to upload the crucial Form 17C. This form contains data on the total number of votes cast through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in each constituency. Kejriwal criticized the ECI for withholding this important information, despite repeated requests. He posted on X, expressing his disappointment and stressing the importance of transparency in the electoral process.

In response, AAP launched a website to make copies of Form 17C available for every assembly constituency in Delhi. Kejriwal emphasized that voters should have access to the data for all constituencies and polling booths, a level of transparency he believes should have come from the Election Commission.

As counting progresses for the Delhi Assembly elections, latest trends show a strong lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), surpassing the halfway mark and presenting a serious challenge to the ruling AAP. The outcome remains uncertain, but the BJP’s performance so far signals a tight race for Delhi’s political future.
