West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday claimed that while the opposition alliance had not yet staked a claim to form the government, it remained a possibility in the future.

Addressing the reporters after the meeting with TMC MPs and senior leaders, Banerjee outlined her party’s strategy of adopting a ‘wait and watch’ approach, expressing her dissatisfaction with the current BJP-led NDA government, which she described as ‘weak and unstable.’

In her remarks, Banerjee hinted at the potential for political shifts in the near future, signaling a readiness within the opposition ranks to assert themselves on the national stage. “The BJP is forming the government undemocratically and illegally. Today, the INDIA bloc may not have staked a claim to form the government, but that doesn’t mean they won’t tomorrow. Let’s wait for some time,” she said, as PTI reported.

TMC leader showed confidence that the INDIA bloc would come to power in the near future but urged caution, advising observers to monitor their governance of the current BJP-led government until that transition occurs.

A day after the Lok Sabha election results were announced, the INDIA bloc convened a meeting in New Delhi, where they stated their intention to take ‘appropriate steps at the appropriate time’ to fulfill the public’s desire to move away from BJP rule.

Despite the Trinamool Congress’s exit from the INDIA bloc in West Bengal in January, they affirmed their continued participation in the national opposition alliance.

“Mamata Didi during the meeting told us that she is confident that with BJP not getting the majority mark, the NDA government won’t last long,” a senior TMC leader present at the meeting said.

After the meeting, Banerjee reiterated her confidence that the ‘unstable and weak BJP government at the Centre’ would not endure for long.”The NDA government to be formed will be unstable. BJP has not secured a majority; they are dependent on allies. Let’s see how long they can get along with their allies,” she said.

Banerjee further remarked on the mandate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting he should have stepped down and allowed someone else to assume leadership.”The country needs change; the country wants change. This mandate was for change. We are waiting and keeping a watch on the situation,” she said.

She also announced that the TMC would not attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government.

“Neither we have got any invitation nor are we attending it. Tomorrow I will give my message to the people of the country for not voting in favour of the BJP,” she said.
