The Hindustani Awam Morcha released its candidate list for the upcoming Bihar elections on Tuesday morning after intense seat-sharing talks with allies. Members of the National Democratic Alliance finalised the allocation arrangements earlier this week — with the BJP and JD(U) set to contest 101 seats each while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) fields candidates from 29 constituencies. The HAM and Rashtriya Lok Morcha will contest six seats each.
Party chief Jitan Ram Manjhi voiced his dismay over the allocation but reiterated support for the NDA alliance. The statement came amid speculation that a rift had developed within the coalition over the seat-sharing arrangement announced on Sunday.
“It is true that we have secured fewer seats, the morale of our workers has weakened, and there is deep dissatisfaction among the workers, which I can only assure them will be compensated for in the future. But this does not mean that we should push Bihar towards lawlessness. It does not mean that we should rob the people of Bihar of their peaceful nights and tranquil days. For Bihar, for the people of Bihar and for the pride and honor of Biharis… We are all ready… The NDA will win, and Bihar’s honour will be upheld,” the Union Minister wrote on X.
Who are the six candidates?
The HAM will be fielding candidates from six seats in the two-phased Bihar Assembly elections. Four current MLAs will be fighting to retain their seats. Romit Singh has been nominated as the candidate for Attari while Lalan Ram has been fielded from Kutumba. The list of candidates includes Manjhi’s daughter-in-law Deepa Manjhi, who is contesting from Imamganj.
- Deepa Kumari – Imamganj
