The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Sunday, with nearly 24 lakh people affected by the rising waters, reports PTI. Several major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, were flowing above the danger level throughout the state. The toll from this year’s floods, landslides and storms has reached 70.
As of now, 29 districts have been impacted by the devastating floods, with Dhubri being the worst hit, where over 7.95 lakh people are facing severe hardships. The district has seen widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and agriculture, leading to a dire humanitarian situation.
Other severely affected districts include Cachar and Darrang, each grappling with the aftermath of the floods as more than 1.50 lakh people in each district struggle with displacement, loss of livelihoods, and access to basic necessities.
Over 53,000 people displaced
More than 53,000 people are currently taking shelter in 577 relief camps. Major rivers, such as the Brahmaputra, are overflowing at multiple locations from Jorhat to Dhubri.

Additionally, rivers like Burhidehing, Dikhou, Disang, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Kopili, Barak and Sankosh have breached the danger mark in various places. The deluge has also affected animals, including poultry and submerged vast tracts of cropland.
Infrastructure damage, including roads and bridges, has been reported from different parts of the state, the sources added.
