The Karnataka Police on Wednesday booked Bharatiya Janata Party leader and the head of the party’s IT cell Amit Malviya over a tweet allegedly put out by him relating to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Malviya has been booked under Section 153(A), which penalises those promoting enmity between different groups, Section 120 B for criminal conspiracy, Section 505(2) dealing with statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill will between classes, and Section 34 for acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
The police filed the FIR on a complaint from Congress leader Ramesh Babu, co-chairman, KPCC communication and social media department.
In his complaint based on Malviya’s tweet dated June 17, Babu accused the BJP leader of “conspiring to create enmity among voters” by spreading false information.
The complaint further alleged that remarks such as “Rahul Gandhi is dangerous and playing an insidious game” and “more dangerous are people who are pulling strings of #Raga like Sam P(itroda), staunchly anti India, they leave no stone unturned to defame India overseas, just to embarrass Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji” were defamatory and meant to incite hatred besides being “misleading” and aimed at spoiling communal harmony.
