Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi should be grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for her three-day Ganga Yatra from Prayagraj to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has said. In a dig at Priyanka who has been appointed in-charge of eastern UP, which also includes Gorakhpur, Adityanath said her tour was possible because of the cleanliness drive on Ganga, initiated by the Prime Minister.
He further said that the Congress leader’s Ganga yatra proved that what BJP did, Congress couldn’t during its rule. During he r three day Ganga Yaga, Priyanka Gandhi interacted with masses, visited temples and also held discissions with students through boat pe charcha. She also visited ancestral home of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at ramnagar in Varanasi.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, after completion of his two years in office, the Uttar Pradesh CM added he was not attracted to power despite being state CM. When asked why he decided to join politics even while he was a sanyasi, Adityanth said as per PTI, “Despite staying in power, there is no ‘sanliptata’ (attachment) with power for us. In fact, there is ‘nirliptata’ (non-attachment) with power for us. We are here for ‘lok kalyan’ and ‘rashtra kalyan”.
“When I was pursuing graduation, I came in contact with my guru Mahant Avaidyanath. At that time Ram Janmabhoomi movement too was going on and he was prominently associated with it. I too had an affinity towards spirituality,” the agency quoted him as saying further.

During his interaction, the CM also claimed that the image of the state has changed and Uttar Pradesh has become model for the rest of the country has no crime has been reported, since BJP government came to power.
