The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is making a big switch that officially sets into motion from July 1, 2025, onwards. In a crucial press statement addressing visa applicants, American immigration officials announced that they will no longer be sending messages from their previously-recognised phone number 468-311 (GOV-311). “Our new number will be 872466 (USAIMM),” they further highlighted.

Having adopted this major revamp, the USCIS has doubled down on its focus on immigration services as the swift change is expected to help applicants easily identify official notifications amidst a growing pool of scams and unauthentic message threads. The immigration authorities have since urged applicants to save the new number as the same extent of alerts and notices will continue flowing into their chat boxes.

“The change is important for people who receive text updates from USCIS, such as case status alerts, appointment reminders or other notifications,” added the official statement.

US immigration officials continue to issue strict warnings

Just days ago, the government immigration agency reiterated its long-emphasised message: “Coming to America and receiving a visa or green card is a privilege.” Officials continue to remind applicants that respecting US laws and value is an utmost priority. “If you advocate for violence, endorse or support terrorist activity, or encourage others to do so, you are no longer eligible to stay in the US.”

The post also comes with the same-old strict warning that breaking US law would result in green cards and visas being revoked. The USCIS further backed its firm reminders in separate social media posts, wherein it calls out numerous cases that have resulted in individuals being taken into custody.

One such recent case highlighted on their official X page is about “an alien from West Africa forced his petitioner to come to our Detroit office for an immigration interview, even though the petitioner had a personal protective order against the alien.” In a post dated June 27(IST), the officials added, “USCIS staff—trained to recognise these situations—took swift action and coordinated with @ICEgov to take the alien into custody.”

Other such words of caution in the spotlight on the US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement official platform were: “Illegal reentry into the United States is a FEDERAL CRIME,” and “We will continue to arrest violent criminal aliens, one by one, to protect our nation’s citizens and residents.”
