Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) Janak Kumar Garg on Friday (March 29) conducted an inspection of the Beleghata-Ruby section of Kolkata Metro’s Airport-New Garia line. According to the officials, during the inspection, speed trials were carried out on the 4.4-km overhead section located along the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
Kolkata Metro issued a statement stating that Garg expressed his satisfaction with the inspection. He meticulously examined various aspects including entry and exit gates, ticketing systems, escalators, lifts, signage boards, electronic interlocking (EI) systems, and signal equipment rooms at Beleghata, Barun Sengupta, Ritwik Ghatak, and VIP Bazar stations.
Kolkata Metro and RVNL officials meet
Following the inspection, a high-level meeting was held with Kolkata Metro and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) officials, the latter being responsible for constructing the 30-km line, also known as the Orange Line.
Furthermore, Garg undertook a trolley inspection along the stretch up to the Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station, the statement said.
Kolkata Metro Orange Line
It may be noted that earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 6-km section of the line, stretching from Kavi Subhash station in New Garia to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station at Ruby Crossing.
The approval of the CCRS is mandatory for the commissioning of any metro or railway project. However, no specific timeline for the public opening of the section was provided, as the model code of conduct is currently in effect.
The 30-km line, upon completion, is expected to alleviate congestion along the EM Bypass and facilitate smoother commute in the eastern part of Kolkata. Notably, on Thursday, Garg also inspected the Noapara to Dum Dum Cantonment section of the Yellow Line, as per the statement issued.
