Siemens Limited, in collaboration with Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), has secured a substantial contract worth Rs 766 crore from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for the electrification of Bengaluru Metro’s Phase 2 project. This development marks a crucial step towards enhancing sustainable public transport infrastructure in the city.
According to officials, Siemens Limited’s portion of the contract within the consortium amounts to approximately Rs 558 crore. The project scope includes the design, engineering, installation, and commissioning of rail electrification technologies, along with a comprehensive digital solution featuring Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
30 stations to be covered
The Phase 2 expansion is set to cover 30 stations across a route spanning over 58 kilometers, connecting Bengaluru Airport terminal to Central Silk Board via KR Puram, and includes the establishment of two depots. This initiative underscores Siemens’ growing footprint in India’s metro network, extending its presence to 11 out of the 20 cities with operational metro systems.
Gunjan Vakharia, Head of Mobility Business at Siemens Limited, highlighted the significance of the Phase 2 project, emphasizing its role in advancing sustainable urban development in Bengaluru. The expansion aims to meet the increasing demands of commuters while supporting the operational needs of the Metro rail authorities.
