Kerala-based Varkeys Group is expanding its operations across multiple sectors, maintaining steady growth at a time when many companies stick to single industries.

Founded in 1984, the family-run group works in FMCG, real estate, engineering procurement and construction (EPC), exports, renewable energy, and transport services. Its partnerships include companies such as Prestige Estate Projects, L&T Infrastructure, John Distillers, Adobe India and Australia’s Adco Construction & Building.

Widen footprints

The group has widened its export footprint through links with Orange Impex, K M Exports and Marquee International Exim. It also supports renewable energy projects through Varkey Palvai Renewables and runs mobility services under Car Zone Rent India.

Managing Director James P. Varkey says the company’s approach is shaped by family business experience and an emphasis on steady partnerships. “We focus on structures that last and decisions that stay useful over time,” he said.

Varkeys Group remains involved in community and faith-based work. It supports Global Leadership Ministry, St. Xavier’s Education Trust in Kolkata, Nirmal Hriday (Mother Teresa’s Home for Dying Destitutes), and the Nila Foundation, among others.

Staying local

Founder Joseph Varkey says the group’s growth has never focused on fast expansion alone. “We never tried to be the biggest or the quickest. Staying local and relevant has kept us stable,” he said.

While many firms look for quick scaling or high visibility, the Varkeys Group model relies on diversification and gradual expansion. In regions where basic infrastructure and trade systems often face gaps, the group continues to operate with a mix of retail, EPC, and export work.

The company is headquartered in Kochi and plans to maintain its current sectors while exploring new areas linked to local economies and partnerships.
