Infosys is working on over 225 generative AI (GenAI) programs for its clients as they try to develop their internal AI strategies, Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani said on Wednesday.

“We are currently working on over 225 generative AI programs for our clients. The key to executing complex transformation is talent,” he said at the IT major’s 43rd annual general meeting (AGM).

Nilekani further said the adoption of enterprise AI is anticipated to be gradual when compared to consumer AI. “The world is at the very early stages of the AI revolution and unlike consumer AI, which will roll out quickly, enterprise AI requires companies to do major changes inside their companies, organise their data, build responsible systems, follow the laws of many countries and so on. So, enterprise AI will take several years to unfold, I think Infosys is well-placed for that,” Nilekani said.

Infosys is also one of the largest adopters of GitHub Copilot globally, with its employees generating over 3 million lines of code using large language models, the company management said.

“As we look at the larger business environment, we are now into the second year of the generative AI revolution, and the initial AI doomerism has quietened down,” Nilekani said.

“…We believe that GenAI has enormous potential to solve business and societal challenges. At the same time, we expect productivity to go up with the use of tools that are like co-pilot and so on, create lots of potential to reduce cost and help in growth,” he added.

Infosys is leveraging its proprietary platform, Infosys Topaz, along with strategic acquisitions such as In-tech and InSemi, to enhance its capabilities in sectors like automotive, particularly in software-defined vehicles.

“Together, with Infosys Topaz, and InSemi’s semiconductor expertise, this will help Infosys create deeper capabilities for the next phase of automotive innovation,” Nilekani said.

Looking forward, Infosys has outlined a comprehensive five-year plan that includes a significant focus on cloud capabilities and GenAI through Infosys Cobalt. “Our clients are combining it with cloud capabilities in Infosys Cobalt to help them scale AI,” Infosys chief executive officer Salil Parekh said.

The company also sees substantial room for growth in northern parts of Europe and in sectors such as healthcare and life sciences. Additionally, Infosys is actively planning strategic acquisitions to enhance its market position and expand its service offerings.

In terms of financial strategy, Infosys is focused on margin expansion and continues to invest in hiring fresh talent to support its strategic initiatives.

“Fresher hiring is a decision we take after considering the demand environment, the utilisation, the growth outlook, etc. Over the last few years, we have also been hiring freshers off the market as and when we see more visibility in terms of our demand and we will continue in the same procedure as well,” Jayesh Sanghrajka, chief financial officer at Infosys said.
