Streambox Media Private Limited, the company behind DOR TV, has officially shut down operations, bringing an abrupt end to the country’s first subscription-only television platform. The closure, announced in May 2025, has resulted in the complete discontinuation of all services linked to the DOR ecosystem.

The company confirmed that both the DOR subscription service and the DOR TV app have been permanently deactivated. Users were notified that no further payments would be charged and that all forms of customer support, warranty services, software updates, and technical assistance had ceased. While DOR-branded smart televisions will continue to function as regular devices, the integrated services, such as exclusive content and platform features, are now offline.

“We regret to inform our users that Streambox Media Private Limited has officially ceased operations, effective May 2025. As a result, the DOR subscription service, along with the DOR TV app, will no longer be available,” the company said in a message to users.

Launched in November 2024, DOR was a media-tech venture positioned as India’s first subscription-based television service. Backed by investors including Micromax Informatics, entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, and Stride Ventures, the project was co-founded by industry veteran Anuj Gandhi.

DOR went live on December 1, 2024, debuting through Flipkart and later expanding to additional e-commerce platforms and offline retail channels. The service bundled a 4K QLED smart television with a unified subscription model that offered access to popular SVOD (subscription video-on-demand) platforms, AVOD (advertising video-on-demand) services, live TV channels, gaming, and news, all through a custom-built operating system developed in India, the DOR TV OS.

The platform aimed to simplify the viewing experience by eliminating the need for multiple subscriptions and apps, offering a seamless interface within a single monthly plan. Despite its innovative pitch and strategic partnerships, the venture failed to sustain its operations in the highly competitive Indian media and tech landscape.

Streambox Media has not released specific reasons for the shutdown, nor provided details regarding future plans or possible restructuring. The closure marks a premature end to an ambitious project that sought to redefine how Indian consumers access and engage with digital content on television.
