Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Deepak Meena, co-founder and CEO, Flyzy, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
1. What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
Work is a huge part of my day because I love what do. When I’m not working I like to take some time out and keep myself updated about the world. It is true fascinating to see and decipher how the world works as a global economy and how different events, decisions, and cultural dynamics influence global relations and our everyday lives. I make sure that I watch the news—it’s a hobby that keeps me curious and informed. In addition to this, I like playing chess. It is one game that helps me better my strategic thinking and it is very challenging. And when I need a creative outlet I indulge in poetry. Writing poetry I feel, keeps me centred and helps me relax as well.
2. How do you spend your weekends?
Currently I am very much into fitness so my weekends have becomes very active. I have started running marathons during the weekends. So I usually spend my time prepping for these marathons. I have realised that it is a great way to keep active and push myself. Besides this, I also like travelling. I enjoy exploring new places. Travelling gives me a fresh perspective and it helps me take a break from routine. It is great to slow down as well. Apart from this, I spend Sundays prepping for the next week. I like planning ahead so being organised helps me dive into Mondays with a focus.
3. What are your favourite gadgets?
My favourite gadget has to be my Apple Watch. It’s like a mini-assistant on my wrist. From tracking my fitness goals to keeping me notified about emails and reminders, it’s incredibly useful throughout the day. I particularly enjoy its health tracking features, which motivate me to keep active. Plus, I like the convenience of not needing to constantly check my phone. With my Apple Watch, I can stay connected and organised without getting too distracted, making it an essential part of my daily routine.
4. Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
It’s funny that you ask that because I too wonder that sometimes! But yes, it has to be something with travelling. If I could pursue a different career, I would love to be a pilot. Flying has always fascinated me, and I think it would be an incredible experience to cruise at 30,000 feet! Back in college, I spent a lot of time researching aviation and even considered going down that path. Unfortunately, I learned that flight training is quite costly and I couldn’t at that point in my life pursue that dream.
5. Which is your favourite vacation spot?
Right now, my favourite vacation spot has to be McLeod Ganj. This charming place, with its strong Tibetan cultural influence, is unlike anywhere else. I love exploring the local Tibetan markets, monasteries, and cafés, which offer a mix of tradition and tranquility. The mountainous landscape is perfect for both relaxing and adventurous activities like trekking. McLeod Ganj is peaceful and refreshing, a great escape from the usual city bustle. Every time I visit, I feel recharged, and it reminds me of the importance of slowing down and enjoying simple moments.
6. A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching
One ad campaign I admire is Fevicol’s. Their ads are humorous and clever, creating memorable moments with simple ideas. They’ve done a fantastic job making the brand unforgettable. In terms of TV, I recommend “House of Cards.” It offers an intense, dramatic look into the world of politics, showing both the power struggles and complex personalities involved. It’s a thought-provoking series that reveals the darker side of political ambition. If you enjoy suspense and strategic thinking, “House of Cards” will keep you hooked.
