As the thick layer of fog engulfed the national capital amidst the cold wave, several flights got delayed due to low visibility at Delhi International Airport on Thursday. 

Several flights are behind schedule owing to severe fog conditions in several parts of the country, Flight Information Display Board (FIDB) at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport mentioned. 

Recently, flight operations at Delhi Airport have encountered a significant disruption as dense fog blankets the region, causing a disruption in the flight services at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The information on the exact details of the number of flights delayed and canceled is awaited. 

According to IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi would be 7°C and the maximum would be 18°C today. 

Fog alert in Delhi

Delhiites on Tuesday woke up with dense foggy conditions with the meteorological department issuing a yellow alert for the day.

Safdarjung, Delhi’s main weather station, recorded visibility of 500 meters at 5.30 am, while the visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport was 1,000 meters at 6.30 am on Tuesday. 

As per IMD, dense fog conditions are very likely to continue in isolated places over Delhi between January 23 and January 27. The foggy conditions have led to reduced visibility, compelling authorities to implement precautionary measures, and impacting the seamless flow of air traffic.

Delhi Airport issues passenger advisory

Low visibility procedures are in process, passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information, the Delhi Airport mentioned on X.

Notably, NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued for Republic Day week from 19th to 26th Jan ’24, no flights would be arriving or departing from Delhi Airport between 10:20 AM to 12:45 PM IST, the airport authorities mentioned.
