BorgWarner Inc has set up a plant, BorgWarner Cooling India Pvt Ltd, at Sriperumbudur near Chennai to capitalise on the increasing demand for auto engine cooling systems, viscous fan drives, fans and thermal management products in India.

The US-based $4 billion auto component and systems manufacturing company, which has been selling its products to all major auto OEMs in India, including Tata Motors, Tata Cummins, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Force Motors, Volvo, Eicher, Asia Motor Works and Kirloskar, has decided to build up a manufacturing unit in India to take advantage of the growing demand, said Tim Manganello, chairman & CEO, BorgWarner.

?There is a huge demand for our products in India. The market size of the thermal management products used in CVs and LCVs are estimated to be around Rs 100 crore and is growing at 10% to 12% annually,” he said at a press conference in Chennai on Tuesday.

Entailing an investment of Rs 30 crore, the Indian plant will have a manufacturing capacity of 3,00,000 assemblies a year as of now and will make viscous fan drives, fans and a few other thermal management products.

Optimum cooling of the engine under all conditions, lowering the noise levels, increasing fuel economy are some of the benefits of this fan drive developed by the Indian plant, Manganello said.
