Huawei Ideos U8150 is a petite smartphone with stylish looks and a dazzling touchscreen. Despite having a smudge-prone glossy back panel, the smudges are hardly noticeable on the blue cover. The front panel features the 2.8-inch display and a d-Pad, comprising of big circular OK key, a metal cursor around it along with a call and end key on its left and right side respectively. The back panel boasts of a 3 megapixel (MP) camera, a speaker, a 1200 mAh battery, a micro SD card and a SIM slot. Also, it has external sound buttons on the left frame, a micro USB slot at the bottom and a 3.5 mm audio jack with an phone on/off button on the top.
Decked with a capacitive touchscreen, Ideos offers a bright home screen where you can have shortcuts and widgets for each and every application in your phone including social networking sites, Android store,Youtube etc. If left for a while the screen locks itself, and a slide on the unlock icon will reopen the previous page. The touchscreen is immensely smooth but slow in response and can sense slightest of touches without calling for any pressure. The touchscreen is immediately followed by four touch keys for back, shortcut, Android and search option, and are as good as the touchscreen. Ideos features gravity sensor, which automatically rotates the display icons with the phone, but is a little slow. While the icons are generally big, they appear cluttered and small in the keypad, however, it doesn?t affect typing at all. When switching on, Ideos is very slow and takes some 20 to 30 seconds.
Ideos is an Android phone with the latest Android 2.2 version and has Wi-Fi, GPRS, integrated GPS, Bluetooth, EDGE and micro USB for connectivity. The GPS is ideal to use as it is fast and zooms and scrolls from one location to another effortlessly. The single SIM is in fine fettle and gives a sturdy in-call sound quality. The Wi-Fi is also fast and seamless; making Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail and internet browsing smooth. You can also find a location on Google Maps, buzz about it, share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter or add them as contact.
Its 3 MP camera is a real disappointment with poor and wobbly video recording. Video playback is decent and is backed by an impressive speaker sound, which prevails with the same amount of richness in MP3 playback and FM radio. With its good sound quality and external sound keys, Ideos can pass for a decent music phone too. Ideos has 256 MB RAM, in-built memory of 200 MB, which can be extended with a micro SD card to up to 32 GB.
Ideos is powered by a 1200 mAh Li-ion battery, which lasted more than 6 long hours with continuous multimedia and social networking usage. Largely, Ideos is an impressive phone with its highs and lows, where the former have an edge over the latter. However, its poor camera, slowness and the price are some of its negatives, making you turn towards other options like Micromax A60 Andro or Spice Mi300. The box contains a handset, charger, earphone, battery, USB cable, micro SD card.
